Holiday Patterns

Grades: K-1st
Summary: This computer activity allows students to practice their patterning skills with icons from the various December holidays.
Requirements: This lesson uses Kidspiration software

This computer activity allows students to practice their patterning skills with icons from the various December holidays.

Holiday Patterns (.kid download) – This Kidspiration document is a downloadable template. For this activity you will find a custom library that contains the following images: menorah, Christmas tree, Lucia Crown, dreidel, and kinara. There is one pattern that has been started for the students. After completing this pattern, they can move on to create three of their own.

One thing I like to do with students is to begin their pattern by placing 3-4 pictures on their screen. They then swap computers with another student. They then complete the pattern the other student began and vise versa. Before returning to their own computer, they can start another pattern for the student.

Once students have completed their patterns, you can have them switch to the writing view within Kidspiration and have them share some facts they know about the holidays.
